Historical events are The British rulers declared Bandarban as a forest zone because of its vast forest area devoid of human settlement. The Arakanese were permanently settled in Bandarban after the British ascendancy in Arakan. Bandarban is the district headquarters of the Bandarban Hill District. Bandarban is the home town of the Bohmong Chief who is the head of the Mogh tribe. The Moghs are of Myanmar origin and Buddhists by religion. Jovial and carefree by nature, the Moghs are simple and hospitable people. Bandarban is also the home of the Murangs who are famous for their music and dance. Fat into the interior there are several other tribes of great interest for anyone who cares to make the journey. Meghla Tourist Spot, Nilachal, Golden Temple, Water falls, prantic lake, Tribal life, Jhum Cultivation, Sangu River, Mountain Tajindang, Second Kewkradang, Boga Lake Chimbuk hill: Is one of the major attractions of Bandarban. ![]() Located at a distance of 18 km north of Bogra town. Mahasthangarh is the oldest archaeological site of Bangladesh on the western bank of river Karatoa. The spectacular site is an imposing landmark in the area having a fortified long enclosure. Beyond the fortified area, other ancient ruins fan out within a semicircle of about 8 km radius. Several isolated mounds, the local names of which are Govinda Bhita Temple, Khodia Pathar Mound, Mankalir Kunda, Parasuramer Bedi, Jiyat Kunda etc. surround the fortified city. This 3rd century B.C. archaeological site is still held to be of great sancitity by the Hindus. Every year (mid - April) and once in every 12 years (December) thousands of Hindu devotees join the bathing ceremony on the bank of river Karatoa. A visit to the Mahasthangarh site museum will open up for one a wide variety of antiquities, ranging form terra-cotta objects to gold ornaments and coins recovered from the site. St. Martin is the countries only coral island named after a British Provincial Governor and called Narikel Jinjira (Coconut island) by the locals. It is one of the best places in Bangladesh . The island has two lagoons that support thick mangrove forests. A rocky platform surrounds the island and extends into the sea, the crystal clear water will allow you to see about 20 feet deep into the sea. Attractions are beaches around the island, crystal stones, coconut groves, sea crabs, turtle shells and pearls. About 2.5 hours journey by sea truck and ships from Teknaf and you can see Myanmar border on your way to St. Martin . Location of the hotels over looking the water is marvelous and every morning you'll wake up to a view of the sun rising over the mountains of Myanmar. Only coral small Island about 9 K.m south of Teknaf. It is about 8 K.m west of North wet of Myanmar at the mouth of the Naf river. The local people called it Narikel Jinjira. It is almost flat and 3.6 meters above the main sea level. The 9.7 K.m wide canals between the main land and the Island is much shallower than the open sea South West of the Island. The Island is 7.32 K.m long and 3.5 K.m wide. It is only 30 kms from Tecknaf. One can go to do this Island either from Dhaka, Chittagong & Cox's Bazar.Sea truck, Tourist, Vessel and country boats ply between the Island and Teknaf regularly. The population is about 5000 of them are fishermen belonging to 550 families. This Island is very famous for tourist to see the wild life and living corals. Tourism to the Northern part of Island exists during 4 months November to February. The main vegetation is coconut, betelnut and bamboo. Chera - Dwip (Mini Island): Chere -Dwip is the part of St. Martin's Island but divided during tides. One can go to Chera - Dwip by walking during low tide. About two and half hours walk from St. Martin or one can go there also by local or tourist boat. One will find the coral over the Island. A small bush is there which is the only green part of Chera - Dwip, enhancing the beauty of this Island. People do not live in this Island.
